Call Name: Honor

I wanted a versatile dog that I could learn to do herding, obedience and agility with.  At 8 weeks of age, I had no idea what a gift I had in Honor.  At 14 months old, she finished her Breed Championship in just 4 weekends of showing, going Best of Breed at a show in Indiana beating the #1 Border Collie bitch in the country!

We then started to concentrate on herding and spent many hours on lessons and clinics to learn how to work livestock with this ambitious girl.  It took a while, but I finally got her Herding Started A course sheep and duck titles.

By age 3 it was time Honor learned to play the game of obedience.  Spending 5 years learning, practicing and competing Honor achieved her UDX2 OM4 Versatility and Rally Advanced Excellent titles earning a handful of OTCH points along the way.

During this time, Honor also leaned the game of Agility, but it made her Mind Blowing Crazy and she became one of those “crazy barking Border Collies” when she ran.  I was lucky to get out of the Agility ring with just Open titles…

In March of 2013 While actively competing in obedience on the search of an OTCH, Honor was diagnosed with a pinched nerve in her back which was affecting her long sit’s in obedience and all jumping.  She could have had a surgery to repair the pinched nerve, but I did not want to put a 9 year old BC through that just so we could try to earn an OTCH.  I decided to immediately retire Honor from Agility and Obedience.

Since moving in a steady gait did not hurt her back, I decided to get her back into herding to give her something to do instead of retiring her cold turkey.  In just a year, Honor earned her Herding Started A course Master title on sheep, her Intermediate and Advanced duck and sheep titles and a short time later, she earned her Herding Championship at the age of 10 years old, making her a Dual Champion.

In September of 2014, at the age of 10, Honor competed in the BCSA National Speciality in Conformation, Agility, Obedience & Herding and won the Janet Larson Award of Versatility…  Yep, I got my versatile Border Collie!

In 2004 “Honor” inspired me to start a dog training company and I named it “Honor Roll Dog Training”.

“Honor” is running at the Run Again event in honor of “Moonie”, our Great Pyrenees, who did pass away from Osteosarcoma (bone cancer) in June 2015.
